10.00      Opening welcome        including        3 Local Experiences of Social Enterprise

10.30      Workshops

1. Reaching out from the grassroots.
The ability of social enterprise to advocate for, represent and engage with those needing
lots of support or on the margins of society. Connecting these challenges with the
special character and varied populations of Morecambe, and igniting a sense of
optimism within coastal communities like ours.

2. Building a vibrant community.
Creating supportive communities of interest through self help organisations and mutual
aid groups. Creating a sense of purpose, as a route towards recovery, employment or
empowerment and achieving recognition of all the talent, energy and passion available
in our district.

3. Activism, innovation and social entrepreneurship.
Are we heading towards sustainability or long term decline? We face big environmental
and social changes, so why do we need social capital more than ever? Why do some
people participate and others not? Looking ahead 20 years or more, can social
enterprise help create sustainable, fair and self governing communities?

4. Collaboration, Partnership, or Income?
Making the case for working together, diversifying our income, seeking contracts and
tenders and the danger of being forced into competing on price to survive the cuts.

5. What is Social Enterprise, and how do we become a successful one?
What is it, why do we need it, how can you get one going, what are the ingredients for
ensuring success? Is it right for us and what support is available out there? Lots of
questions and hopefully some answers.

6.Open Space workshops.
A chance to hold your preferred conversation if the above doesn’t appeal. Experts
available but expertise not essential. Would you volunteer to host a discussion and seek
out the views of others of like-mind?
